- WW1 caused widespread famine in India because British overtaxed foods as they were worried about running out of it.
- Built Stilwell road to link NE India and China 1943
- British and India defend themselves from the Japanese invasion in 1944
- British fear a Hindu-Muslim civil war and thus partitions India which also causes many people to get displaced
- India was liberated in 1947. A partition between the Muslim and the Hindu parts was opposed by Gandhi.
- Nationalism throughout the country rose as India had finally recieved independence
- However the economic problems such as hunger and widespread poverty resulting from hundreds of years of colonial rule did not disappear yet and India still had a long way to go
